AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN
The sight of a horse silhouetted against a blazing sunset is a beauty to behold but this painting also has a deeper meaning . It pays homage to the millions of brave horses who gave their lives in the fight for freedom in the First World War and takes it’s title from the famous poem “For the Fallen'“
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them. Robert Laurence Binyon
